With our daily jobs and busy lives, lets face it, most of us can use a little improvement in the time management department. Life is busy and we often find that 24 hours in a day just isn’t enough. If you own, manage or work at a child care center, you’re likely all too familiar with an overwhelming workload. If you find yourself struggling to stay sane while tackling your daily tasks, here are three things to keep in mind to help you manage your time better.

Organization

Easier said then done, being organized is one of the most sought after character traits. Everybody has that friend or family member with an immaculate house, a pristine car and impeccable timing. Keep in mind, although some are more inclined to be organized than others, this is not something that just falls into place for them. It takes determination, discipline and steady work, and even the organized people we envy are always looking to improve. Thankfully, technology today can help with organizing our days. Calendars and reminders that sync up with all of our devices have become essential for organizing events and scheduling meetings. There are some awesome apps that can help you stay organized and on top of everything you have to do. Take advantage of these helpful tools and make organization a part of your life.

Prioritization

There are many tasks that we have to complete each day, and we may not be able to get to all of them. Prioritizing your tasks helps to ensure that the most important tasks are completed first, and that you finish the items with due dates or timelines. When new items come up throughout the day, don’t let them distract you from the task at hand, and make sure that you complete them in the proper priority. Set time aside throughout each day to review your tasks and ensure that the most important things that require your attention are being completed in priority. Many factors will work their way into the equation such as deadlines, task size and potential benefits upon completion. Procrastination is one thing that needs to be eliminated as much as possible. Build a list of the daily tasks, estimate completion time, determine whats important and prioritize your tasks everyday.

Setting Goals

In life we need to push ourselves to succeed. The most successful people challenge themselves everyday. Many child care owners and workers find themselves busy and focused on providing an important service to their community, however t’s important that that they don’t do this at the expense of managing their business. Start high-level with creating a business plan, look at where your center is at today and plan for where you want it to be in the future. Setting goals is exciting and completing them is very rewarding.

Take the steps necessary to master the task of managing your time. As a result you will feel more accomplished, less stressed and have more time in the classroom where you love to be. What are you waiting for? It’s time to take action!
